How to pack and store your dressThe Wedding Dress Box will help protect your dress from external factors that might cause damage. By keeping your dress in the Wedding Dress Box you shall be protecting it from light, dust, avoiding it from becoming crushed in a wardrobe, or marked by items surrounding it and preventing yellow. The boxes have also been known to protect from fire and flood damage. We recommend that you have your dress cleaned by a reputable dry cleaner specialising in the cleaning of wedding dresses. Fabrics tend to discolour over time by taking up acid from the items that surround them, often referred to as 'yellowing'. All items, unless they are acid free, such as normal cardboard, paper, coloured fabrics, wood or plastic contain some form of acid that can have an effect after many years on the items that lie next to them. It is therefore important that your dress is kept in a neutral and harmless medium, and to pack it carefully using the acid free tissue paper provided, as explained below. The box itself is made from pH neutral board (neither acid nor alkali). In addition to protecting your dress, the dress box provides a breathable environment for the fabric, helping them to stay fresh, clean and feeling new. The combination of an acid free medium and protection, provides a traditional, natural and highly suitable environment in which to store your dress, or any precious item of clothing. Please follow the instructions carefully below: 1. Line the base and sides of the box with at least 2 layers of acid free paper. 2. Place your dress into the box, gently putting the skirt in first, with the length of the dress following the longest length of the box. If your dress has a train you will need to lie this in the box before the skirt, and then fold the skirt back on top of the train. Put several sheets of acid free tissue paper in between the train and the skirt. If the train is wide at the sides, gently fold these in towards the middle of the box, with tissue paper surrounding them.3. You will need to fold the main body of the dress, to lie the bodice on top of the skirt. Before doing so place some acid free tissue paper on top of the skirt so that there is tissue between each layer of the dress.* 4. In addition place several sheets of the tissue inside the bodice, and fold a few sheets to put inside each of the sleeves. Bunch the tissue paper if the sleeves are puffy to retain their shape. 5. Now you can lie the bodice over the skirt, with the tissue paper in between. Lastly place several layers of tissue covering the top of the dress before placing the lid on the box, and then tie the bow. 6. Don't be afraid to touch your dress after it is packed away. Inspecting it from time to time, taking it out and refolding the fabric along different lines will help to prevent any creases becoming too permanent. However don't forget to put the dress back with the tissue paper as explained above. 7. If you have had any calligraphy, or are enclosing any other item in with your dress, ensure that your dress does not come in direct contact i.e. separate from your dress using plenty of acid free tissue. 8. Store your Wedding Dress Box in a suitable place such as on top of the wardrobe, or under the bed, ensuring the box is away from any damp, direct and indirect heat and from sunlight. We do not recommend that you store your box in a loft/attic. Do not store the box in a plastic bag as this hinders the breathability of the box. However you can place the plastic bag on top of the box to protect from dust. The covering of your box can be wiped with a damp cloth to remove any marks that might occur. *If the bodice of your dress is exceptionally weighted with e.g. heavy beading, pearls, etc you can lay this in the box first, and fold the skirt on top, packing the tissue as described above. |
